I’m pretty pumped. I’m just about finished porting my social anxiety blog, SociallyDistressed to WordPress. All of the template is done and looking pretty good. The only left to do is to port all of my links to other blogs over. I’ll do that tonight.
I’m really starting to like WordPress as a blogging platform. I have used quite a few platforms in the past such as PHPNuke and DotNetNuke, but both of those required quite a bit of work, and had a ton of little quirks. WorkPress and all of the plugins I’m using have worked pretty much out of the box. In fact, other than editing templates, I havn’t had to write or change a single line of PHP up to this point.

As I was driving home with my lunch today, I was thinking about my blogs, and my marketing strategies, when a thought popped into my head. I have seen some bloggers shun advertising just because they blog for fun. If you’re one of these people, I have a suggestion for you. Why not monetize your blog? Here’s my reasoning.
If you’re anything like me, you could use any extra money that you can get coming in the door. If people are reading your content it’s worth something, so why shouldn’t you get paid even if getting paid isn’t the reason you do it? Even if you have enough money coming in your door every month, you could still put advertisements on it and donate the revenues to your favorite charity. To me it almost seems like a foolish waste to throw that potential away.
